We built Avila Architects, Inc. because we saw a gap.
Too many clients were getting handed plans that looked great on paper but did not survive the permit process — or worse, created accessibility problems that cost them later. My partner Fred and I wanted to do it differently.
What the Gap Looked Like
We kept seeing the same pattern: a project would move through design, get permitted, get built, and then create problems that should have been caught much earlier. Code compliance issues discovered at plan check. Accessibility violations found after occupancy. Construction costs that ballooned because the design did not account for how buildings actually get built.
The root cause was almost always the same: disciplines that should have been integrated were siloed. The architect did not think like a contractor. The contractor did not have the accessibility expertise. Nobody had all three.
What We Do Differently
We are a California-licensed architecture firm based in Clovis, California, specializing in:
- Commercial architecture and tenant improvements
- Residential design and additions
- CASp accessibility consulting and ADA compliance
Between the two of us, we bring credentials most firms do not have under one roof: licensed architect, Certified Access Specialist (CASp #1063), LEED AP BD+C, and licensed general contractor.
That means we do not just design. We understand construction, code, permitting, and accessibility from every angle. Our clients get a complete picture — not a plan that looks good until it meets the permit counter.
